Why does my tooth hurt?

Toothache may occur for several reasons and should always be taken seriously because a more serious problem may be behind it.

A common cause is tooth neck sensitivity which develops when enamel wears down or gums recede. In this case cold, hot, sweet or acidic foods and drinks stimulate the nerves and cause sudden pain. Proper brushing and fluoride products may help relieve symptoms, but in more serious cases special dental treatment may be recommended.

In the case of tooth decay, the hard tissues of the tooth become damaged and softened as a result of the process. During treatment, it is necessary to remove the pathologically altered, infected tooth structure, as it contains bacteria and decomposition products that may cause the further spread of decay.

By removing the decayed layers, we create a healthy, stable foundation that allows for proper restoration and the recovery of the tooth’s function.

Old fillings that have become loose or cracked are also a common source of pain. When a filling no longer fits perfectly or has worn out, the tooth structure underneath may become damaged, which can cause sensitivity and occasional pain.
